Cordial is from the heart (literally)

The word cordial comes from the latin cor, heart. It has many meanings, all very much to the point for these events:

  • adj.
    • heartfelt, warm, sincere, friendly
    • stimulating, invigorating, reviving
    • strongly felt, fervent
  • n.
    • a liqueur
    • a tonic, a food or drink to stimulate the circulation

Nouns Wanted: People, Places, Things

People

The Cordial is all about people. We tried putting on a solitary event once, and it really didn't fly. Whatever you like to do and however you'd like to be involved, it all boils down to enthusiasm. Well, that and non-flakiness.

Typical rewards for volunteers include free or discounted admission, involvement in planning sessions with food and wine tastings, and a post-Cordial thank-you soirée. All on top of the camaraderie of being part of something pretty downright magnificent. Plus, we'll introduce you to lots of interesting people and — don't answer yet! — we'll shamelessly promote you (if you're into that).

Wishlist people include:

  • kitchen:
    • people who like to cook, prep, chop, clean up, etc.
  • service:
    • people who like to interact, indulge a performative side, etc.
  • photographers & videographers
    • come document a Cordial; we'll wine, dine & promote you
  • musicians & performers:
    • play/move/perform; we'll work together to design an evening around what you do
  • audio/visual artists:
    • we always have a media component; show us your stuff
  • artists & designers:
    • design settings, props, costumes, lights, whatever — or the print collateral for a Cordial (announcements and thank-yous, but also designed menus and materials during events)
  • mystery persons:
    • hey, suggest something

Places

We're always on the lookout for interesting locations. They don't need to be places you would typically think of as dining/event venues. In fact, more likely the opposite. We specialize in alchemy — transforming otherwise improbable spaces into enchanted evenings (or whatever time of day).

Our needs are minimal. We are nothing if not resourceful. And we are notorious for leaving places cleaner than we found them — and hosts happier than we found them. See for example Martin Barrett's glowing testimonial about his experience providing his home for a Cordial.
